The density of pure aluminium is close to 2700KG/M_and about 35% of that of iron.

(2) High strength-to-weight ratio

Although the strength of pure aluminium is not high, it can be more than doubled by cold working. It can be alloyed by adding magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, silicon, lithium, scandium and other elements, and further strengthened by heat treatment. Its strength can be comparable to that of high-quality alloy steel.

(3) Easily machined

Aluminum can be cast by any casting method. Aluminum has good plasticity, it can be rolled into thin sheets and foils, drawn into pipes and filaments, extruded into various civil profiles, and can be machined at the maximum speed that most machine tools can achieve, such as turning, milling, boring and planer.

(4) Excellent corrosion and chemical resistance

A dense and firm AL2O3 protective film is easily formed on the surface of aluminium and its alloys. This protective film will be destroyed only under the intense action of halogen or alkali ions. Therefore, aluminium has good resistance to atmospheric (including industrial atmospheric and marine atmospheric) corrosion and water corrosion. It can resist the corrosion of most acids and organic substances. The corrosion inhibitor can resist the corrosion of weak alkali solution. The corrosion resistance of aluminium alloy can be improved by adopting protective measures.

(5) Good heat and electrical conductivity

The electrical and thermal conductivity of aluminium is second only to that of silver, copper and gold. At room temperature, the equivalent volume conductivity of electrician aluminium can reach 62% IACS, and the conductivity of electrician aluminium is twice that of copper if calculated by unit mass conductivity.

(6) Highly heat and light Reflecting

The reflectivity of polished aluminium surface to white light is more than 80%. The higher the purity, the higher the reflectivity. At the same time, aluminum has good reflectivity to infrared, ultraviolet, electromagnetic and thermal radiation.

(7) No magnetism, impact and spark

This is very valuable for some special uses, such as instrumentation materials, shielding materials for electrical equipment, flammable, explosive production equipment and so on.

(8) Sound absorption

It is good for interior decoration and can also be equipped with damping alloy.

(9) Nuclear radiation resistance

For high-energy neutrons, aluminium has the same neutron absorption cross section as other metals. For low-energy neutrons, its absorption cross section is small, second only to beryllium, magnesium, zirconium and other metals. The greatest advantage of aluminium in resisting nuclear radiation is that the induced radiation energy produced by irradiation decreases rapidly.

(10) Beauty appearance

Aluminum and its alloys have a silver-white gloss due to their strong reflectivity. High finish and brightness can be achieved after machining. If anodized and colored, not only the corrosion resistance can be improved, but also colorful and brilliant products can be obtained. Aluminum is also an excellent base for the production of paint materials.
