sand casting and die casting

Die Casting VS  Sand Casting

11 August 2020

Successful die casting or sand casting process adds value to your business and gives you a head start on the competition.  You can stand out with high product quality, great service, low prices. But it’s important to choose suitable process to your product, as they eventually decide how to win in the market. In this post, I’ll help you learn the processs of die casting and sand casting .

What is difference between Sand casting and Die casting?

What is difference between die casting and sand casting

Sand casting —the cost of mould is lowest ,and the production time is short. you can  quick occupy the market with low risk of project input.

but die casting need more time for making the mould .and the cost of mold  is so expensive .

2. There are more sand holes in the sand casting part ,and the surface apperance is bad.we only suggest choosing powder coating for sand casting part .

but the die casting part has little Gas porosity and good surface appearance . you can choose   Surface Finish like :plating ,sand blasting ,anodizing .

3.sand casting thickness need large than 3mm, and need machine more by  cnc machining.so the product cost is very highest

but the thickness of die casting part can be min 1.5mm

4.sand casting mould is very easy to modify . we can make it by wooden and aluminium . so if you have large change on the design . the cost also very cheapest .

instead ,hard and more cost for modifing the die casting tooling .the die casting mould material is iron (h13,8407,skd61),the hardness is about HRC 46° -48° . so if you choose die casting ,we suggest to make rapid prototype first  to check  the design.

Sand Casting

Sand casting is the use of clay bonded sand molding materials for the production of castings, is a long history of the process, is also the most widely used process methods. Speaking of a long history can be traced back thousands of years ago;

Die casting

A metal casting process characterized by applying a high pressure to the molten metal using a mold cavity.Molds are usually made of alloys of higher strength, and this process is somewhat similar to injection molding

Sand casting  and die casting each have advantages and disadvantages. To learn more about them,   contact SYX today to discuss which method would be best for your upcoming project.
